Phoenix formed when guitarists Richie Helmer and Michael Eagles teamed up with bassist Damon Crowe and vocalist Jono Roland during second year of uni. The group embraced Richie's explorative guitar sounds and tunes to create a set of progressive art rock tunes, finding gigs in Melbourne and Geelong's Pub venues and Uni college scene. Some of the songs penned were recorded live and in Richie's 8track home studio. Eventually finding release as publishing became more accessible. 'Will I...' is an art rock ballad, often played at gigs and recorded during this time, that presents an unstable mood pondering future identity.
