Clayton 1 Pilot Scale Paper Former

Clayton 1 was created by Dr Richard Helmer for CSIRO Forestry and Forest Products to service the research needs of the Australian Pulp and Paper Industry. Richard adapted the flow and forming system from his PhD device, the UoM Laboratory Papermachine, to function with CSIRO's MK Systems Paper Former so that up to 80 sheets per day could be made under tightly controlled research conditions using materials sampled directly from industrial facilities. The new papermachine Clayton 1 was used for commercial research with Australian and New Zealand paper manufacturers for over 10 years and was extended to include twin wire forming. Much of the research, over 30 publications, was communicated through industry association’s journals and annual conferences and assisted with industrial process optimisation.
